Elliptical Fitness Equipment
Elliptical fitness equipment is also known by
various other names that include elliptical exercisers,
elliptical cross trainers, elliptical trainers,
elliptical gliders and elliptical steppers or just as an
elliptical. Elliptical equipment looks like an exercise
bike, a treadmill, a cross-country ski machine and a
stepper all put together in one neat and compact
package.
Elliptical machines are so called because when
you use the machine you can move your feet in an
elliptical path. Though this machine is a fairly new
addition to a hoard of other home fitness equipments,
they are becoming more and more popular among people who
are looking for an effective equipment to do cardio
exercises.
The rising popularity of elliptical fitness
equipment is not surprising as it is one of the best
options available today to get fit at home. Many people
prefer to use an elliptical machine instead of a
treadmill or other fitness equipments.
One of the main reasons for its popularity is
that they are very simple to operate and use. Elliptical
machines are gentler on you joints when compared to other
types of fitness equipments, say a treadmill. This is due
to the fact that elliptical exercises are low impact,
meaning that your feet are in contact with the footpads
during the whole process.
Another advantage is that these machines are
generally very quite. This means no disturbance to your
family and moreover you can enjoy music or your favorite
show on TV as you sweat away your calories. On an
average, you can burn about 700 calories and tone your
body simultaneously by exercising in an elliptical
machine for an hour.
Elliptical fitness equipment designed for use in
a home is fairly compact. Though you might need
considerable amount of space, it needs much less space
than a standard treadmill. Also, an elliptical machine
will cost you less than a treadmill of the same quality.
They are also more reliable than a
treadmill.
Most often, a quality elliptical machine also
acts as a cross trainer where you can exercise your arms
and legs simultaneously which means you get a much more
balanced workout with elliptical machines than other type
equipments that focus only on the legs.
The only drawback is that if you are training
for long distance running or a marathon, using the
elliptical fitness equipment alone is not sufficient as
the motion of this machine is not quite similar to that
of actually walking or running.
